Never too old to die young
This blog is dedicated to a very small minority of over 50 something people who either have forgotten how to act their age or choose to ignore it (as is my case). Recently I purchased a 2004 Honda RC51, this is a true race bike and won the world Super Moto in 2000 and then again in 2003. This bike sparked a flame that has seemed to have gone down to a flicker, as I have reached the 1/2 century mark. Then about 3 months ago a friend talked me into doing Track Days at a local race track. I had a bad case of the nerves getting ready to go out on the track, which was made worse by the fact that at the beginner orientation meeting, I realized I could have been everybody's father except for the instructors.
I took it slow at first and tried to build up my confidence, slowly I started to past some of the slower 20 something riders (a wonderful feeling).
I have now done 2 Track Days and cannot wait for the new season next year to begin. The rush of flying down the straightaway at 140 mph and then braking to make a hairpin turn, there is nothing like it to lift the clinging fog of age and all of its preconceptions.
Common sense is very highly over rated. VIVALA OFOFB's!
